Exactly 100 years ago The RMS Titanic was moored in the Harland and Wolff Shipyard in Belfast undergoing the final luxury fit-out before setting sail on the 3rd of April to meet her fate on the 14th with the loss of 1500 lives.
The virtual RMS Titanic is now open in OSGrid in Virtual Belfast set amongst The Drawing Office, The Thompson Graving Dock and The Pumphouse ( the only 3 remaining real structures in Belfast with a direct connection to the ship ) it lies at -100 ms in a wonderful sea scape by Bob Solo. The ruined exterior, built by Stiofain MacTomais, is in sharp contrast to the interiors by Stiofain, Izzie Applewhyte and Jazzy Chatterbox recalling the luxury of the original liner. You can walk down the Grand Staircase to the Grand Ballroom, visit the Tea Rooms, the Engine Room, First Class Cabins and more while being entertained by an inventive selection of NPC bots built by Paul Emery.
While there are many 3d Titanic models in a variety of formats, this is the only one set within the context of Belfast, the city of its birth, which features many buildings that existed at the time she was built.
There will be several broadcasts of events from The Titanic Festival in RL Belfast to commemorate the centenary in the coming weeks.

During the build several issues arose regarding building deep underwater in opensim some we resolved but some proved impossible to fix so please be prepared to adjust your viewer settings turning off basic shaders and changing advanced water default to "tor atomist" works for most.

Great job! I especially enjoyed the effect when I changed my graphics settings after arriving at the ballroom and the murk (which was delightfully and creepily atmospheric) dissolved and all was restored to its original grandeur. Best of all, in exploring the ship, I did not have to fight my way through store ads, kiosks and signs for men's formalwear! It reminded me of VirtualChristine's astute comment about building and creating in OpenSim: "See what virtual citizens get up to when every second isn´t occupied putting up casinos and Meero ranches in a desperate attempt to keep up with spiraling rent costs!

Seconded! It's a nice contrast to the Titanic that they have over in SL...

Ah, that reminds me of the Titanic I visited on InWorldz grid. That one was actually a huge shopping mall. I don't know if it was the same one from Second Life.

The Belfast version on OSG is great!

Having had the pleasure of visiting the RMS Titanic in Virtual Belfast several times, I'm delighted to say that at each visit I've always found new areas or noticed details that I'd missed before. It's a rare thing in my experience to find places that can be entertaining, fascinating, beautiful and educational all at the same time!

If you haven't had the chance to visit the Titanic yet, I'd urge you to go and see it soon. My congratulations to the creators for sharing such a wonderful creation with us :)
