Loop Back adapter settings in Windows Networking
still cant get to your sim??? could it be the same problem i had ? i know not everyone has the same probs but thought maybe me sharing this can help someone else
i had tried to make a sim on osgrid for almost a year i could get one set up on the map but could not teleport to it and noone else could tp to it
i did what everyone said the usual stuff
1 downloaded the latest version of open sim from osgrid.org
then made a folder in c drive called Osgrid and extracted the zip to that location
2 opened my ports 9000 to 9005 in the dsl/router and in windows fire walls both
3 made sure loopback was enabled in my dsl modem/router
4 got me a dyndns addy to sinc and work along with my router from dsl as the ip always changes
5 i then went to the bin folder and opened the console( open sim.exe application 76k) for 32 bit systems
(NOTE: if your using a 64 bit u would use open sim 32 bit launcher application
6 Followed and filled in the questions in the console screen and my sim was online on the map however i still
could not connect to it as stated above
so while i was out checking another grid out they offered a free sim as well there and i went thru thier process of setting it up
and of course i still couldnt tp there so i went to thier trouble shooting page and found out something interesting
in
it seemed that in some instances with some modems and routers (like in my verizon westell 6100 modem/router) it is required also to set up a loop back adapter
in the windows networking area so i tried this and viola i was on my land there .
so i came back to osgrid and my sims also now worked here so the problem all along was i just also needed a loop back adapter setup in windows
however please note that it is important to run the dyndns updater program when running your sims as it updates to tell u your new ip when isp changes it..
this is good as u must go into loop back adapter later and change the ip each time as it changes still every few days) otherwise your sims wont let u in till
you put the new numbers into loopback in windows...here are the links with the tutorial step by step instructions for making a loopback adapter below
