I really like plant life, so the Tree module is a huge asset to me.
Last time I heard (quite a while ago) trees would only grow in the SW region properly on a mega region. In other regions they would use the heightmap of the SW region so trees would grow underground/overground. I'm not sure if this has changed since. If not then growing trees on a mega would be messy to say the least. Also terraforming in-world on any of the regions other than the SW region would be painfully slow (again that may have been fixed, I'm not sure.

I am thinking my workflow should be to create my regions, terraform and then let the Trees grow for a week or so, all with the regions seperate.
Then freeze the copses and remove whatever errant trees I need to from the future building areas, and then create the mega and do my building.
Does anyone see any drawbacks to that approach?
This should work ok provided you can combine the regions successfully

No problem at all with a standalone. And in saying that, though I'm not an advocate of it, (I'm opensim through and through) you may be better off looking at Aurora sim (
http://aurora-sim.org/). I must add that I have never used it, but only looked at the feature list and apparently supports better mega regions.
