Hello,

I am experimenting with Mesh on OSgrid
You can go to my home parcel on Teravus if you want to see what I have been creating until now
Of course you will need a mesh compatible viewer to see it
If you want you can get copies ... just ask me

I would like to open some information exchanges on what we could expect about mesh on Osgrid in the near future
Big problem is that Osgrid supports mesh .. but the a lot of viewers do not .... and as long as this is not fixed we can not start inserting mesh prims in buildings or just offer some mesh objects
It becomes even more dramatic when we speak about mesh clothes ... if you put such clothes on ... people with non compatible viewer will see you as you have no clothes on ... which is really not the purpose

on my home parcel ... i have mainly put mesh ornaments on the wall as they will not impact people with not compatible viewer .. but i guess this is not what we should do on the long term ....

Waiting for your replies

BB

I've said it before, but one of the big problems for mesh builders in OSG is that Imprudence remains the recommended viewer, and the Imprudence team have no immediate plans to implement mesh (or at least, not last time I checked).

I tend to do the same as you, and use mesh in such a way that non-mesh users will not be adversely affected, but I'd love to see it become more universal.

I say we carry on making mesh content and improving our modelling skills... it's great to learn new things. If we make enough things that people like and want to have..they will upgrade to a mesh viewer...that's my cunning plan anyway lol.
The Zen viewer is now on the download page and according to Keys latest viewer stats as of April 24th (snapshot) there were 52 people using viewers with mesh capability & 65 without.

I'll be honest in saying I've never braved the learning curve for mesh. However if I end up on sim where things look weird and choppy I relog back in on Singularity and enjoy the full picture. I think most people are figuring it out and have more than one viewer option. Keep on truckin meshers!

Since I'm always busy building and stuff, Imprudence is the right choice for me.

I have an older machine and the other 3rd party viewers, for me, are taking way too much PC resources. I don't have a very good graphic card and that really makes my PC go bunker at times ... lol
Also, they are programmed for SL. So when you search, you end up having the SL stuff. Some of them you cannot Import or Export.

As for the Zen viewer, I have a heck of a time logging in with that one. Unless I go to one of the plazas, it won't let me log in. Then, once I do finally managed to log in at one of the plazas, most times I can't TP to any other regions. Again, it's probably because of my older machine.

But when I take a break from building and want to go snoop around the other regions, I log in with Phoenix to make sure I don't miss out on the wonderful mesh stuff out there. So I'm with Sarah on this one. Those of you talented enough or brave enough to handle mesh, please keep at it.

I agree with Selsia on what she says about Imprudence... it is the best viewer to build on OSgrid ...
with Phoenix there is always some risk to see prims not as they are
there is the main point of my intervention ... It will only be the day that there will be a mesh capable version for Imprudence that mesh can make his break through on OSgird

It may sound silly, but I don't know what Mesh is.

Most (or in the case of non-mesh viewers - all) of what you see in OSG is built from primitives. mesh objects are built outside of the grid, usually in dedicated 3D graphics programs. the advantage of mesh (from a purely aesthetic viewpoint) is that models can be far more detailed, and the textures can be pre-lit and pre-rendered for that model, leading to a much finer detail than primitive models can provide.

There are, of course, many instances where primitives can provide a much more pleasing solution, too, but certainly where fine detail or organic detail is required mesh is an advantage.
