Hello Fellow OS Grid Residents.

I am relatively new to OS Grid having had a sim in Second Life which I gave up due to the high tier payments.

I have a region here on OS Grid and would like to make a seafront type village with boardwalk etc.

I have a had a try myself and my sim looks awful as a result with bits of terraforming all over the place etc.

My previous sim in the main world was designed for me and I still only have basic building skills.

Is anybody willing to help me put something together? I would happy to pay you in Lindens, Paypal etc!.

Please contact me if you can help.

Thanks :)

Pity you did not save your SL sim terrain map. You could have loaded that into your server and had your osgrid sim the same as your SL one.

I am sure you will get some help here. It may be helpful to maybe draw what you want, as it is very hard to terraform to other's requirements.

While I am sure that someone with the time will offer to help, I personally recommend soldering on.

If you don't like what you've done up to now with the terraforming, flatten the whole thing (Flatten tool in land settings at maximum strength) and start again. Personally, I found that slow and steady was the best way to go. Trying to do too much too quickly resulted in horrible results. Slowing myself down and doing small changes at a time made a huge difference. I'd guess that, more often than not, bad results are a consequence of lack of patience.

Hey there and welcome to OSgrid.

If it's terraforming that is giving you trouble, try out one of these free OAR island terrains by Greybeard Thinker from right here on the forum.

Another pretty easy option is making your own terrain via a picture editor program (Photoshop, Gimp, PaintShop Pro, etc.) in greyscale. The darker, the lower. Once done, give it a good blur to get soft transitions, then save as png file and import into your server with the command 'terrain load' (see here for help).

You could even start with a pre-made OAR that's terraformed and then customize it. Linda Kellie has quite a few on her site. The one called Boardwalk would be a good place to experiment.

Just keep what you like and replace or re-texture what you don't:)

And just in case you miss them, here is Linda's assortment of terrain files:

http://www.lindakellie.com/terrain.htm

There are a few various shapes, plus some natural islands. She provides instructions on how to use them.

Once you get a terrain loaded, you can play around with it inworld with the terrain forming tools, and also in the region console there are a few useful commands. Just type
Code:
help terrain
in the console (the DOS window for your opensim process) to see them listed.

Be sure to ask here if there's something you don't understand. You can also try the IRC webchat to ask questions:

If you know the trick, simple basic terrains are quick made on normal sims :)
ANd i mean with the inworld terrain tools. not loading some terrain file.
