Am told in the instructions area to add this to my icon for the path:

-loginuri http://osgrid.org:8002 -loginpage http://osgrid.org/loginscreen.php -helperuri http://osgrid.org/

it does not work

looking at the Example on the Instruction screen I see right under THAT:

( example:"C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -multiple -loginuri http://osgrid.org:8002 -loginpage http://osgrid.org/loginscreen.php -helperuri http://osgrid.org/)

NOTE the word -multiple, which precedes the -loginuri http://

THIS is incorrect also according to my computer which informs me:

'The name specified in the Target Box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are correct.'

This happens when I have removed the " after the exe; and if I also remove the / after the .org extension.

What could the problem be?

I would REALLY like to become a part of this OSGRID, however at this rate, with NO HELP, or NO 'contact us' choices, and just the forums which I can see are not very well frequented, what's a poor girl to do? Please advise...my email addy is: wolfberryade13@hotmail.com and you CAN email me regarding this subject. Please no sillies, or dark humor or sex jokes, just give me what I want and I will go away...to OSGRID preferably... :?

Under step 2 you found the easyest way to connect to OSgrid, no setup of the url, only register on osgrid.org your username:

http://osgrid.org/index.php?&page=smodul&id=7&btn=7

OK, first --> Make sure the Path to SecondLife.exe is correct
default install will leave it in == C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe
Leave the quotation marks in, they are necessary as there is a [space] in the Path that will wrongly be seen as a delimiter w/o the quote marks
I don't know how necessary the trailing "/" is in the helperuri URL but since it is recommended I stick with it.
The "-multiple" parameter is optional, only required when logging in more than one Username to the same grid at the same time. It tells the SL viewer to start a new instance w/o logging out the first instance.

Here's my shortcut unedited that gets me connected (after supplying Username and Password on the opening page)

Quote:
"C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -set SystemLanguage en-us -loginuri http://osgrid.org:8002 -loginpage http://osgrid.org/loginscreen.php -helperuri http://osgrid.org/

SystemLanguage can be changed if your preferred language is not the US dialect of English.
Also, be sure Start in... is a valid Path
Usually "C:\Program Files\SecondLife"
And once again the quotes must be present because of the [space] in the Path

One more idea Schizm, if you have a working SecondLife login icon
Make a copy of it
Open up Properties of the Copy
Delete everything after the first [space] after SecondLife.exe" || leave the PathTo and Program including the quotes and the space btwn to the first parameter
Paste in
Quote:

then Apply and OK

Should probably now Rename this Copy of Shortcut so you know it goes to OSgrid
Now when you double-click this new shortcut/icon you only need to enter your OSgrid Username and Password. Once the login page loads in the viewer you might need/want to click on one of the Plaza's in a box on the right or a Place in the box on the left. That will put a login destination in your Start Location box, just like in Second Life :)
You might also want to do a clear cache after a login to LL's virtual world, can be a bit confusing seeing the cached image of your last visit in SL while logging in to OSgrid. Not required, but it can lead to a bit of confusion :D

Have Fun Schizm, and welcome to OpenSimulator aka OpenSim Grid ;)

As important as it is in any other URL. It's needed to properly form the URL - sites are delimited with "/", individual files (pages) on sites aren't. If you don't supply it, the browser (the SL client, in this case) makes another trip to the internet to get it. All leaving it out will do (in this case) is trivially slow your login down.

Make sure you have a space after the ", so that is '.exe" [space] -multiple' or '.exe" -loginuri'.
The -multiple is really optional and should not make a difference.

The trailing "/" is necessary, as the viewer just appends a file name like "currency.php" without adding a "/".

Thanx for the clarification Scharpe and mjm.
Don't know whether to blame my lack of insight on not paying attention
or not knowing any better,,,, not paying attention, doesn't look so bad ;)
Just glad I raised the point and ended up learning something

Well, neither I guess... I just came across that line in the viewer source code recently. ;)
If you want to know why, keep an eye on v0.2 of the Hippo OpenSim Viewer being released later today.
