There are always a lot of discussion about the performance of regions. There are lots of factors that determine how a visitor "feel" in a region. Some might be (please add to the list):

- Hardware of the server
- Operation system and set up
- Dedicated server or Virtual Private Server
- Virtualisation layer
- Tuning of OpenSim setup
- Load on the sim (prims, scripts and visitors)
- Bandwidth from the server to the internet core network
- Client bandwidth
- Distance (jumps and ping) from the region to the main servers of OSGrid (like asset, maps and so on)
- Distance (jumps and ping) between the region and the client

All these factors makes it really challenging to get a objective compare between different providers and offers.

I think it would be interesting to set up some kind of "standard performance testing OAR" that can be loaded into different setups to actually measure the performance. Maybe something like that already exists that I am unaware off... if so please point me in the right direction.

Anybody else would be interested in this? Any suggestions how to approach it?

Well OAR it self tests only part of the values. Ideal would be add a testing BOT program which would do sets of operations whose would test the rest.

LL has also sets of activities to test sims. We could just do it using a bot to make things easier...

Bo

PS: the BOT can have different testing programs. Some also to test OSG release before being released...
