Hey folks,
I tried to enable the second NIC on my OpenSim server and I couldn't connect. If I can outline my config and have someone tell me where I am misunderstanding it would be greatly appreciated.
I have a router I am hiding behind. It directs all OpenSim traffic to the correct machine, 192.168.0.4. My external address is mapped to a FQDN that resolves to a different IP internally to get around the "NAT" issue. It works quite well.
So I enabled a second NIC, 192.168.0.5 with the thought in mind that all "internal" traffic would just route to this internal NIC and only external would route through the 192.168.0.4 address.
So initially my Regions.ini stated as follows: internal IP: 0.0.0.0 external IP: my external FQDN
After I enabled the second NIC, 1921.68.0.5 I changed it to: internal IP: 192.168.0.5 external: external FQDN
This didn't allow me to connect internally.
I changed my Regions.ini file BACK to: internal IP: 0.0.0.0 external IP: my external FQDN
AND I still could not connect until I took down OpenSim and restarted it after shutting down completely the new NIC. This tells me that OpenSim bound itself to this IP address. Does this sound right? I thought it would listen on any IP if you set it at 0.0.0.0?
So it's late and I may try again tomorrow but does anyone have any insight as to what's happening here?
Thanks in advance! Marcus D.
