Keep the training material related in some way to OSGrid and OpenSIM or tools that you would use externally to opensim such as image editors and database tools etc... but ultimately the material presented benefits OpenSIM and OSGrid.

Loop Back adapter settings in Windows Networking

still cant get to your sim??? could it be the same problem i had ? i know not everyone has the same probs but thought maybe me sharing this can help someone else

i had tried to make a sim on osgrid for almost a year i could get one set up on the map but could not teleport to it and noone else could tp to it
i did what everyone said the usual stuff

1 downloaded the latest version of open sim from
then made a folder in c drive called Osgrid and extracted the zip to that location

2 opened my ports 9000 to 9005 in the dsl/router and in windows fire walls both

3 made sure loopback was enabled in my dsl modem/router

4 got me a dyndns addy to sinc and work along with my router from dsl as the ip always changes

5 i then went to the bin folder and opened the console( open sim.exe application 76k) for 32 bit systems
(NOTE: if your using a 64 bit u would use open sim 32 bit launcher application

6 Followed and filled in the questions in the console screen and my sim was online on the map however i still
could not connect to it as stated above

so while i was out checking another grid out they offered a free sim as well there and i went thru thier process of setting it up
and of course i still couldnt tp there so i went to thier trouble shooting page and found out something interesting
it seemed that in some instances with some modems and routers (like in my verizon westell 6100 modem/router) it is required also to set up a loop back adapter
in the windows networking area so i tried this and viola i was on my land there .

so i came back to osgrid and my sims also now worked here so the problem all along was i just also needed a loop back adapter setup in windows

however please note that it is important to run the dyndns updater program when running your sims as it updates to tell u your new ip when isp changes it..
this is good as u must go into loop back adapter later and change the ip each time as it changes still every few days) otherwise your sims wont let u in till
you put the new numbers into loopback in are the links with the tutorial step by step instructions for making a loopback adapter below

to set up loopback adapter in

Windows Vista link

Windows 7 link

windows xp link ... windows-xp

Hope this helps someone~s~Mystic :)

june 4 2014 """"UPDATE"""since adding new info in the next post i thought id update this post to with new links for windows loopback set up
since the above ones are no longer working !!! ... rver-2012/ ... windows-7/ ... vista.html

Micki Jonson had asked me a few weeks ago if there was a tool to make it easier to do the loopback adapter without having to change the numbers in the loopback adapter each time the ISP assignes a new set to you ,,,,erll i had wondered this myself and so i set out to hunt it down because surely some smart person had made a tool like this and
yep i found it so here it is Micki....

Making Microsoft Loopback Adapter easier to use
In Windows 7

click the "Start" menu, search for "Network and Sharing Center"

Open Network and Sharing Center

To the left of the window that appears, click "Change adapter settings"

Right Click on the Loopback adapter you created Click on "Rename" in the context menu

Rename the adapter to "NAT Loopback" (without the quotes)

because you will download
this ... ated%29.7z

script/tool that helps you with connecting to a site that tells the tool
what external IP Address you have at the moment *and* adding the
IP Address to the Loopback adapter's settings so you won't have to do it Manually
everytime your ISP sets a new IP for you.
The tool is already set up to use the name "NAT Loopback" for the network
(Loopback-)adapter to make it insert the correct external IP settings.

this is a great tool for people connecting to opensim that use the loopback adapter
to access thier sims and other gaming softwares.

Mind that installing a NAT loopback adapter is a workaround. Not a Fix.

It will only work if the server and viewer are installed on the same physical machine.
Any other machines within the same local network will not be able to connect to it.

Also if you plan to buy a new router to get around this, make sure you Replace the one that does not support it.
( It is not useful to put a NAT Loopback capable device behind any gateway that does not support it, the traffic will still fail ).
