The region list function is missing from the website. A google search for "osgrid region list" gets a link to https://www.osgrid.org/?q=node/36, but that link turns results in an empty list.

Is it possible to add this function back into the website. It used to be under the Grid menu, but it's no longer there. This list is handy both for exploring and grid naming. The old version used to list all the regions, but it would be even better if it only listed the regions that were currently active. Maybe that's no longer practical since there are over 6,000 online regions but it was a nice feature to have.

Bump. I agree. The region list was a great feature that has been removed. It would be nice to see it back.

The who's online is still there, just limited to people that are friends and allow you to see them on the map :
https://www.osgrid.org/whois.php

A list of active avatars can be found here :
https://www.osgrid.org/popular_regions.php

All above links exist as menu buttons.

For HG regions, use http://opensimworld.com/

Hope that helps.

I know about those, but if a region has no one on it, no one will ever know it's there. I read in one of the Saturday meeting posts that no one, or not many, even knew there was a Recreation Plaza.

Well, i'm not sure the full region list will ever return, as our analytics told us that this page was really barely ever used, and really the info on it was not particularly relevant either. A killed sim that was still on map but offline for 3 weeks, would also still be listed in there as " active region".
(The low use of that page might be due to the fact it used to be a drama to navigate, with over 350 pages and no decent << <1.2.3.4.....sorting> >> options). Probably also hammered the Grid server with some ridiculous query.

For as far as the argument "I need to know if a name is already in use" goes, you can just use the search function in the webby or the viewer map.
If it can't find a name, it's available.

Mind i don't remember the reasons for it being switched off. I vaguely recall some mention of performance reasons, and this list could better be exported manually to some .xls for the 3 people that would like/need that list. (No coding, no random performance hits, no unhappy users). but i'm not sure, is months ago.

I'll bring it up in next weeks community meeting on Hurliman, but mind, not making promises here.

I agree with you on the need to know if the name is in use thing. A simple search will tell you that. Dead sims that are still registered area problem in search too and I doubt that will ever go away completely.
