To add to Key's answer, even viewer XML files do not seem to be interchangeable.
(unless there have been changes recently)
For example, if I export an XML using Phoenix, I can only import that XML using Phoenix, and not, say Imprudence, and vice versa.

I would also add that the fewer vertices you can use the better... it will cause less lag and load much quicker in-world. So say you import a spiffy vase into Blender and it has 10,000 vertices - it is much better to reduce that WAY down to more like a few hundred since you can still get a lovely and smooth design, export it to .dae, and then import it with say Singularity, or really a few different viewers support mesh imports at this point and do a great job of it! :)
