[2019/04/27 11:01] albertlr Landar: Hi Jeff.
[2019/04/27 11:01] Jeff Hall: hey everyone:)
[2019/04/27 11:01] Lobo Estepario is Online
[2019/04/27 11:01] Azi Az: Hi Jeff :)))))
[2019/04/27 11:02] Jeff Hall: hey:)
[2019/04/27 11:02] Koni Lanzius: so Wiz and Albirtir were saying that until the asset server issues are resolved we should not jump with our main avatars, for those of you who just arrived
[2019/04/27 11:02] Jeff Hall: jump?
[2019/04/27 11:02] TIGGS Beaumont: Mike D hey
[2019/04/27 11:03] Jeff Hall: u mean HG?
[2019/04/27 11:03] Koni Lanzius: hi Mike
[2019/04/27 11:03] Koni Lanzius: yes sry
[2019/04/27 11:03] albertlr Landar: Hypergrid
[2019/04/27 11:03] Mike D: Hi, all.
[2019/04/27 11:03] Wizard Atazoth: yea cache has to rebuilt so things may act up till finishes
[2019/04/27 11:03] Jeff Hall: ok ty for saying
[2019/04/27 11:03] TIGGS Beaumont: nooots!!! hry hry
[2019/04/27 11:03] Koni Lanzius: Snootzie!
[2019/04/27 11:03] TIGGS Beaumont: so no HG jumping yet in mains?
[2019/04/27 11:03] albertlr Landar: best to use an alt with little inventory.
[2019/04/27 11:03] Koni Lanzius: yea
[2019/04/27 11:03] Snoots Dwagon: Dere we go
[2019/04/27 11:03] albertlr Landar: you can still use an alt.
[2019/04/27 11:04] albertlr Landar: it just affects what ever inventory your ave may have.
[2019/04/27 11:04] TIGGS Beaumont: okay good to let all know at LBSA
[2019/04/27 11:04] albertlr Landar: i am not sure how that would affect someone Hypergridding in here however.
[2019/04/27 11:05] Koni Lanzius: ahh
[2019/04/27 11:05] albertlr Landar: Osgrid handles the suitcase differently, and that may be one problem.
[2019/04/27 11:05] TIGGS Beaumont: HG in okay, HG out a nono
[2019/04/27 11:05] albertlr Landar: yea
[2019/04/27 11:05] Koni Lanzius: is there a policy about best times to back up inv so as not to cause grid lag?
[2019/04/27 11:05] TIGGS Beaumont: <----will get all confused and come back as a girafe
[2019/04/27 11:05] TIGGS Beaumont: f
[2019/04/27 11:06] Snoots Dwagon: From what I've been told, when exploring HG use a no-account alt. If you find inventory you wanna bring to OSgrid, grab it, bring it here, drop it off, delete it from alt.
[2019/04/27 11:06] albertlr Landar: Right now till cache is rebuilt best wait a while.
[2019/04/27 11:06] Snoots Dwagon: That keeps ti all nice and clean
[2019/04/27 11:06] Koni Lanzius: i see
[2019/04/27 11:06] albertlr Landar: yea, best approach Snoots
[2019/04/27 11:06] Jeff Hall: do we have any idea when it should be fixed albert? an order of idea?
[2019/04/27 11:06] Snoots Dwagon: So I'm gonna hypergrid using an alt named Tigggs Beamont. :D
[2019/04/27 11:06] TIGGS Beaumont: okay snoots so HG is okay hyperis no inventory issue?
[2019/04/27 11:07] Snoots Dwagon: mwahahahahahaha...
[2019/04/27 11:07] TIGGS Beaumont: LOL you do that and while there clean my closet
[2019/04/27 11:07] albertlr Landar: i will try to find out from Dan, and relay it to the forums.\
[2019/04/27 11:07] Koni Lanzius: heh
[2019/04/27 11:07] TIGGS Beaumont: dang leater handbag
[2019/04/27 11:07] Snoots Dwagon: It's okay to hypergrid jump and explore... just not with main avatar
[2019/04/27 11:07] Snoots Dwagon: If you do so you risk losing inventory
[2019/04/27 11:07] TIGGS Beaumont: what if you do not have an alt?
[2019/04/27 11:07] Snoots Dwagon: Dunno why. that's just what I was told
[2019/04/27 11:07] Snoots Dwagon: Make one
[2019/04/27 11:08] TIGGS Beaumont: okay Snootier
[2019/04/27 11:08] albertlr Landar: you cab always make one, as many as you like.
[2019/04/27 11:08] Snoots Dwagon: Word is (from reliable source) hypergrid jumping with your main avatar risks your inventory
[2019/04/27 11:08] TIGGS Beaumont: I ust have always been TIGGS
[2019/04/27 11:08] TIGGS Beaumont: on all grids
[2019/04/27 11:08] Snoots Dwagon: You may return to OSgrid with empty folders
[2019/04/27 11:08] Koni Lanzius: ive had a bit of the disappearing stuff myself
[2019/04/27 11:09] TIGGS Beaumont: Koni on HGing?
[2019/04/27 11:09] TIGGS Beaumont: Oh lord I have to make a new me to save the old me
[2019/04/27 11:09] Koni Lanzius: i didnt notice it until recently
[2019/04/27 11:09] TIGGS Beaumont: er this me
[2019/04/27 11:09] Snoots Dwagon: I have experienced both folders emptying (the folder name is still there, but empty)... and inventory items showing up as "no assets"
[2019/04/27 11:09] Koni Lanzius: so not sure how it came up mine
[2019/04/27 11:09] Snoots Dwagon: yeah, what Koni said. Just the last few weeks
[2019/04/27 11:09] Koni Lanzius: gone*
[2019/04/27 11:10] Koni Lanzius: its not a big deal
[2019/04/27 11:10] TIGGS Beaumont: I have noticed shifts in #'s in closet
[2019/04/27 11:10] Koni Lanzius: ive backed up my inv
[2019/04/27 11:10] TIGGS Beaumont: but always assumed was shopping or me deleting
[2019/04/27 11:10] albertlr Landar: well right now you might experience that until cache is rebuilt, it was just rebooted Wizards tells us
[2019/04/27 11:10] Koni Lanzius: hey Lanani
[2019/04/27 11:10] Snoots Dwagon: I noticed the symptoms, contacted Dan, and Dan told me the issue is known and they're trying to find the cause.
[2019/04/27 11:10] Koni Lanzius: ahh
[2019/04/27 11:10] LaNani Sundara: hihi
[2019/04/27 11:10] TIGGS Beaumont: well, there is our answer
[2019/04/27 11:10] TIGGS Beaumont: Admins are aware
[2019/04/27 11:10] Snoots Dwagon: Clearing cache and rebooting won't help in this case. The inventory is actually wiped from the asset server for some reason
[2019/04/27 11:11] TIGGS Beaumont: and working on issue
[2019/04/27 11:11] Jeff Hall: hi Nani
[2019/04/27 11:11] Snoots Dwagon: So Snoots has been a good little dwagon and staying home. :D
[2019/04/27 11:11] TIGGS Beaumont: Lanani hey hey
[2019/04/27 11:11] LaNani Sundara: strange issue?
[2019/04/27 11:11] Snoots Dwagon: Hi da Lanani!
[2019/04/27 11:11] Azi Az: Hi Lanani :))))
[2019/04/27 11:11] LaNani Sundara: hihi
[2019/04/27 11:11] Jeff Hall: HG Nani
[2019/04/27 11:11] albertlr Landar: so until it is resolved best not to hypergrid or use inventory too much.
[2019/04/27 11:11] Snoots Dwagon: yeah Lanani. Been discovered that jumping through hypergrid with main avatar can lose inventory
[2019/04/27 11:11] TIGGS Beaumont: okay will make alt today
[2019/04/27 11:11] Jeff Hall: not recoomanded witm main alt cos u could loose some assets
[2019/04/27 11:11] TIGGS Beaumont: yikes
[2019/04/27 11:12] LaNani Sundara: hmm
[2019/04/27 11:12] LaNani Sundara: thats .. new?
[2019/04/27 11:12] Snoots Dwagon: So if hypergrid jumping, use a "travel alt"
[2019/04/27 11:12] Snoots Dwagon: yeah Lanani, fairly recent
[2019/04/27 11:12] Snoots Dwagon: Just last few weeks
[2019/04/27 11:12] LaNani Sundara: never heard of it
[2019/04/27 11:12] Snoots Dwagon: I discovered the symptoms about... 3-4 weeks ago and reported it
[2019/04/27 11:12] Kayaker Magic is Online
[2019/04/27 11:12] LaNani Sundara: maybe depends on the opensim version used :)
[2019/04/27 11:13] Snoots Dwagon: Dan told me he's aware of it and trying to track it down
[2019/04/27 11:13] Snoots Dwagon: You could be right
[2019/04/27 11:13] albertlr Landar: could be
[2019/04/27 11:13] Em Jannings is Offline
[2019/04/27 11:13] TIGGS Beaumont: could that be the root of all the silly issues we have been having?
[2019/04/27 11:13] Snoots Dwagon: Part of me kinda wishes OpenSim was auto-updating. :D
[2019/04/27 11:13] LaNani Sundara: npbody on uhm.. mine, .. has reported this to me
[2019/04/27 11:13] TIGGS Beaumont: I mean collectively, ot just individually?
[2019/04/27 11:13] TIGGS Beaumont: Kayaker hey there
[2019/04/27 11:13] Koni Lanzius: good morning Kayaker
[2019/04/27 11:14] LaNani Sundara: morning
[2019/04/27 11:14] albertlr Landar: Hi Kayaker
[2019/04/27 11:14] Snoots Dwagon: I keep meaning to install your version LaNani
[2019/04/27 11:14] Snoots Dwagon: Just finding the time...
[2019/04/27 11:14] LaNani Sundara: :)
[2019/04/27 11:14] Snoots Dwagon: Oh oh I have a BIG question today
[2019/04/27 11:14] Kayaker Magic: Hi all! Sorry I'm late, had trouble logging on a bit ago.
[2019/04/27 11:14] LaNani Sundara: hi Kayaker
[2019/04/27 11:14] Snoots Dwagon: Recommendations from those who know: Bullet or Ubode? Which is preferred?
[2019/04/27 11:14] Azi Az: Hi Kayaker :)))
[2019/04/27 11:14] TIGGS Beaumont: well I guess so
[2019/04/27 11:15] Snoots Dwagon: I've read a LOT of debates on the forums
[2019/04/27 11:15] TIGGS Beaumont: mm
[2019/04/27 11:15] Em Jannings is Online
[2019/04/27 11:15] TIGGS Beaumont: the race car engines?
[2019/04/27 11:15] albertlr Landar: either should work in general. But one maybe better at some things, the other better at others.
[2019/04/27 11:15] Snoots Dwagon: So wondering whether to use Bullet or Ubode
[2019/04/27 11:15] Kayaker Magic: I recommend ubODE over Bullet.
[2019/04/27 11:15] Danger Lytton: i prefer ubode
[2019/04/27 11:15] albertlr Landar: I notice that i can for instance walk up stairs with Ubode
[2019/04/27 11:16] Koni Lanzius: ahh
[2019/04/27 11:16] albertlr Landar: better
[2019/04/27 11:16] Snoots Dwagon: I found when I used Ubode that some doors couldn't be walked through, and some mesh surfaces weren't accurate. Discussions said "Reload the mesh". All thousands of them. LOL
[2019/04/27 11:16] TIGGS Beaumont: *raises hand
[2019/04/27 11:16] LaNani Sundara: depends... if you have old mesh buildings then often the doorways won't let you in on ubODE, but a plus in ubODE is that you can sit on most surfaces without ending up sideway outside or under it
[2019/04/27 11:16] Jeff Hall: Snoots: i use both cos Bullet doesnt behave like Ubode: for high bouncing Bullet has to be used while other situations like using boat are better i find with ubode
[2019/04/27 11:16] Kayaker Magic: Bullet has a mode it gets into where it uses 100% of your CPU, nobody knows why.
[2019/04/27 11:16] inanna beaumont is Online
[2019/04/27 11:16] TIGGS Beaumont: *raises hand
[2019/04/27 11:16] Snoots Dwagon: Ah Kayaker. That's an issue
[2019/04/27 11:16] Em Jannings is Offline
[2019/04/27 11:17] Snoots Dwagon thinks Tiggs has a twitch in her hand
[2019/04/27 11:17] Snoots Dwagon: :D
[2019/04/27 11:17] TIGGS Beaumont: no i had a question on the text in chat
[2019/04/27 11:17] Koni Lanzius: hey snoots which one is Radioactive, do ya know?
[2019/04/27 11:17] Kayaker Magic: ubODE runs a lot of SL scripts reasonably well, like the Bwind sailboat script.
[2019/04/27 11:17] Snoots Dwagon: I believe Radioactive is Ubode
[2019/04/27 11:17] TIGGS Beaumont: and then you asked one *grin11:13] TIGGS Beaumont: could that be the root of all the silly issues we have been having?however, mine was sort of swept under carpet
[2019/04/27 11:17] LaNani Sundara: you basically answered your own question Snoots
[2019/04/27 11:18] Koni Lanzius: oh good
[2019/04/27 11:18] Snoots Dwagon: I did LaNani?
[2019/04/27 11:18] LaNani Sundara: yes
[2019/04/27 11:18] TIGGS Beaumont: so raises hand again
[2019/04/27 11:18] LaNani Sundara: the mesh issue with older mesh
[2019/04/27 11:18] Snoots Dwagon: Ah yeah
[2019/04/27 11:18] Koni Lanzius: ahh
[2019/04/27 11:18] albertlr Landar: please speak up Tiggs
[2019/04/27 11:18] Snoots Dwagon: That's what caused the question to start with
[2019/04/27 11:18] TIGGS Beaumont: 11:13] TIGGS Beaumont: could that be the root of all the silly issues we have been having?
[2019/04/27 11:18] Koni Lanzius: so older mesh is buggier then?
[2019/04/27 11:19] Kayaker Magic: what silly issues?
[2019/04/27 11:19] TIGGS Beaumont: The other night while I was build (yes building) an 80 prim count build disappeared
[2019/04/27 11:19] Snoots Dwagon: I dunno about ALL the issues Tiggs, but certainly some of them
[2019/04/27 11:19] TIGGS Beaumont: right off my island in front of me
[2019/04/27 11:19] Azi Az: i think it has to do with the mesh physics
[2019/04/27 11:19] LaNani Sundara: no but ubODE is stricter on it
[2019/04/27 11:19] Koni Lanzius: did u re-log?
[2019/04/27 11:19] TIGGS Beaumont: Could tht be part of what has been happening?
[2019/04/27 11:19] Koni Lanzius: oh so number vertexes thing?
[2019/04/27 11:19] TIGGS Beaumont: yes Koni and it is not in my inventory either
[2019/04/27 11:19] LaNani Sundara: the inventory issue you mean Tiggs?
[2019/04/27 11:19] Snoots Dwagon: Well, as a rule of thumb on opensim and SL both... random stuff happens
[2019/04/27 11:20] TIGGS Beaumont: Lanani yes is it related to this HG issue
[2019/04/27 11:20] Koni Lanzius: number of*
[2019/04/27 11:20] Koni Lanzius: ahh
[2019/04/27 11:20] Snoots Dwagon: But yes, I have a personal opinion in this: I think it's an asset server issue.
[2019/04/27 11:20] Snoots Dwagon: Which is likely to affect a wide variety of things.
[2019/04/27 11:20] Snoots Dwagon: I may be right or I may be wrong.
[2019/04/27 11:20] Snoots Dwagon: But I'm seeing a LOT of issues that point directly to failing asset servers.
[2019/04/27 11:20] TIGGS Beaumont: well Snoots or??? hehe
[2019/04/27 11:21] TIGGS Beaumont: Thank yo for the responses appreciated
[2019/04/27 11:21] TIGGS Beaumont: wat exactly happens if they fail?
[2019/04/27 11:21] Kayaker Magic: LaNani: Discovery Grid switched to your branch and had Robust restart a couple of times, and when it does new prims can get lost. We are just starting to document the issue..
[2019/04/27 11:21] TIGGS Beaumont: Izzie hi there
[2019/04/27 11:21] Snoots Dwagon: Yeah Tiggs, not ignoring you. Just sometimes don't recognize the question as a question cos I can't follow main chat worth beans. :D
[2019/04/27 11:21] Koni Lanzius: Izzie! greetings
[2019/04/27 11:21] TIGGS Beaumont: LOL *kicks Snoots
[2019/04/27 11:22] Kayaker Magic: And discussions of different questions can overlap in chat/
[2019/04/27 11:22] Snoots Dwagon: Exactly. :D
[2019/04/27 11:22] TIGGS Beaumont: Kayaker yes
[2019/04/27 11:22] albertlr Landar: best to make a back up of your inventory youself to be sure.
[2019/04/27 11:22] Snoots Dwagon: And if an IM comes in, I get lost totally. :D
[2019/04/27 11:22] Koni Lanzius: indeed
[2019/04/27 11:22] TIGGS Beaumont: well tell them quit iming
[2019/04/27 11:22] TIGGS Beaumont: *smiles
[2019/04/27 11:22] LaNani Sundara: did you look at the hmm whats it called.. permanency setting in opensim.ini kayaker?
[2019/04/27 11:22] TIGGS Beaumont: okay so to back it up daily? what?
[2019/04/27 11:23] albertlr Landar: no not daily.
[2019/04/27 11:23] Koni Lanzius: i think Peala said once that the larger inventories slowed the whole grid during backup
[2019/04/27 11:23] TIGGS Beaumont: no daily
[2019/04/27 11:23] Koni Lanzius: i could be wring on that
[2019/04/27 11:23] Lobo Estepario is Offline
[2019/04/27 11:23] Snoots Dwagon: I've talked to several folks and all are agreed: if you have the ability, make your IARs and OARs and keep them up to date and dated, so you can fall back if something major happens.
[2019/04/27 11:23] TIGGS Beaumont: okay how often please?
[2019/04/27 11:23] Koni Lanzius: wrong*
[2019/04/27 11:23] Dragon Moorlord is Online
[2019/04/27 11:23] albertlr Landar: backup on your new items.
[2019/04/27 11:23] Koni Lanzius: ahh
[2019/04/27 11:23] albertlr Landar: not everything.
[2019/04/27 11:23] Koni Lanzius: right a folder
[2019/04/27 11:23] TIGGS Beaumont: He did Koni
[2019/04/27 11:23] Koni Lanzius: makes sense
[2019/04/27 11:24] TIGGS Beaumont: How do you distinguish the two Albeterl
[2019/04/27 11:24] TIGGS Beaumont: I mean it all goes to inventory
[2019/04/27 11:24] albertlr Landar: you can sort your inventory by date.
[2019/04/27 11:24] TIGGS Beaumont: oh hmmmmm
[2019/04/27 11:24] TIGGS Beaumont: Thank you
[2019/04/27 11:24] albertlr Landar: and then isolate new things to a single folder, then back it up.
[2019/04/27 11:24] Snoots Dwagon: Since we have some devs here I have a question: why doesn't OSgrid automatically dump trash instead of us having to go to the website to do it. I am guessing a whole lot of asset server is being taken up by "dead trash".
[2019/04/27 11:24] albertlr Landar: Once its backed up no need to back it up again
[2019/04/27 11:24] Lobo Estepario is Online
[2019/04/27 11:25] TIGGS Beaumont: ah
[2019/04/27 11:25] Koni Lanzius: folders are better anyway
[2019/04/27 11:25] Koni Lanzius: easier to find stuff
[2019/04/27 11:25] albertlr Landar: its a security problem
[2019/04/27 11:25] TIGGS Beaumont: wait when I dump trash is not dumped? is that why often it reappears in inventory?
[2019/04/27 11:25] Jeff Hall: procedure is same in other grids i saw for emptying trash, not different from other grids i saw
[2019/04/27 11:25] Snoots Dwagon: Every security problem has a security solution. Imho... stacked asset servers are more of a problem. :D
[2019/04/27 11:25] albertlr Landar: it was said if it is allowed for people to directly delete in world, that griefers could do the same to you inventory.
[2019/04/27 11:26] Jeff Hall: brings a safety
[2019/04/27 11:26] Jeff Hall: extra safety
[2019/04/27 11:26] albertlr Landar: by doing it on the web site it allows for double security.
[2019/04/27 11:26] TIGGS Beaumont whispers: so where is trashed inventory stored by OSG?
[2019/04/27 11:26] Kayaker Magic: LaNani: The impression I get is that when Robust crashes (and is automatically restarted by a watchdog), the last few prims created in regions get lost in the aether.
[2019/04/27 11:27] albertlr Landar: when you mark for deleting in world that's all that is done, to completely remove it you must do it on the website.
[2019/04/27 11:27] Snoots Dwagon: Tiggs, if you empty trash it doesn't really "empty". It just becomes invisible in your viewer . But it remains on the asset servers.... causing the asset servers to fill and fill and fill.
[2019/04/27 11:27] TIGGS Beaumont: hmmm wow
[2019/04/27 11:27] Snoots Dwagon: And from what I've heard one of the main problems on OSgrid is the asset servers are becoming HUGE
[2019/04/27 11:28] Snoots Dwagon: My solution to that: plug the security problem and dump the trash.
[2019/04/27 11:28] Koni Lanzius: they need to be upgraded and moved
[2019/04/27 11:28] Snoots Dwagon: There is *always* a way to plug security issues
[2019/04/27 11:28] Snoots Dwagon: Usually
[2019/04/27 11:28] Snoots Dwagon: Probably
[2019/04/27 11:28] Snoots Dwagon: mwahahahahahaha...
[2019/04/27 11:28] TIGGS Beaumont whispers: okay and the cost to OSG?
[2019/04/27 11:28] Jeff Hall: when u relog u will see deleted inventory back if u haven't done on website; simply log on website and delete
[2019/04/27 11:28] Snoots Dwagon: Asset servers cost $$$
[2019/04/27 11:28] TIGGS Beaumont: *sticks Snoots finger in the trash barrel hole
[2019/04/27 11:28] Snoots Dwagon: Eeeps!
[2019/04/27 11:28] TIGGS Beaumont: hold that please snoots
[2019/04/27 11:29] TIGGS Beaumont: okay so tat is why it reappears
[2019/04/27 11:29] TIGGS Beaumont: I need t go to?
[2019/04/27 11:29] TIGGS Beaumont: *that
[2019/04/27 11:29] albertlr Landar: ok
[2019/04/27 11:29] Snoots Dwagon: Another solution to asset server issues is "if an avatar hasn't been used in a year"...
[2019/04/27 11:30] Snoots Dwagon: Tiggs, to truly dump trash you need to log in to and use the Trash dump on right side of screen
[2019/04/27 11:30] albertlr Landar: but we do have lots of people show back up over a year, looking for their things.
[2019/04/27 11:30] Snoots Dwagon: It's very visible
[2019/04/27 11:30] Koni Lanzius: I'll have to get my alts together and make sure they dont go poof in the night
[2019/04/27 11:30] TIGGS Beaumont: silence hello
[2019/04/27 11:30] Snoots Dwagon: I'm just mentioning possible solutions to a very major problem
[2019/04/27 11:31] Koni Lanzius: maybe a "holding storage" situation
[2019/04/27 11:31] Snoots Dwagon: Not saying they're "good" solutions-- just possible ones. :D
[2019/04/27 11:31] Koni Lanzius: hey kevin
[2019/04/27 11:31] TIGGS Beaumont: beduino hi there
[2019/04/27 11:31] Koni Lanzius: Paela! hey there
[2019/04/27 11:31] paela argus: hi =)
[2019/04/27 11:31] George Equus is Online
[2019/04/27 11:31] albertlr Landar: you can also make an alt, and give most of your inventory to it, at least those that can be transferred, to reduce your own.
[2019/04/27 11:31] Kevin Glomas: hi koni
[2019/04/27 11:31] TIGGS Beaumont: Paela hello
[2019/04/27 11:31] Koni Lanzius: hi beduino
[2019/04/27 11:31] Jeff Hall: hey paela, kevin
[2019/04/27 11:31] Jeff Hall: hey beduino
[2019/04/27 11:31] beduino Ruben: ciao a tutti
[2019/04/27 11:31] beduino Ruben: (it-en) Hi everyone
[2019/04/27 11:31] Kevin Glomas: hi jeff
[2019/04/27 11:31] Azi Az: Hi Paela :))))
[2019/04/27 11:31] TIGGS Beaumont: albeterl I think you suggested that once before
[2019/04/27 11:32] Kevin Glomas: hi azi
[2019/04/27 11:32] Azi Az: Hi Kevin :))))
[2019/04/27 11:32] TIGGS Beaumont: I have always resisted making an alt, guess there goes that
[2019/04/27 11:32] albertlr Landar: Hi paela
[2019/04/27 11:32] Kevin Glomas: hi danger
[2019/04/27 11:32] Koni Lanzius: i have slashed my inv by 10,000 items and still trimming
[2019/04/27 11:32] TIGGS Beaumont: Kevin HUg hey
[2019/04/27 11:32] hipster flower is Online
[2019/04/27 11:32] paela argus: the website is closed for the entire week
[2019/04/27 11:32] Koni Lanzius: still*\
[2019/04/27 11:32] Kevin Glomas: hiya tiggs
[2019/04/27 11:32] paela argus: include tomorrow too
[2019/04/27 11:32] albertlr Landar: oh dear.
[2019/04/27 11:32] Snoots Dwagon: For example... IF a major announcement was made all over OSgrid: "We will be removing the entire inventory of all avatars that haven't been used in a year. If you wish to maintain that inventory please log in within the next 30 days." Then everyone has been told.
[2019/04/27 11:32] TIGGS Beaumont: okay Paela which?
[2019/04/27 11:32] TIGGS Beaumont: the dump site?
[2019/04/27 11:32] paela argus: entire website of osgrid
[2019/04/27 11:33] TIGGS Beaumont: wow
[2019/04/27 11:33] paela argus: have a problem in and not the time for resolve it that weekend very sorry
[2019/04/27 11:33] Snoots Dwagon: Yeah, Koni and I have both been slashing inventory
[2019/04/27 11:33] Snoots Dwagon: I managed to slash 6,000 "trash" items
[2019/04/27 11:33] Koni Lanzius: good work Snoots
[2019/04/27 11:33] TIGGS Beaumont: Paela you all are working on it so Thank you
[2019/04/27 11:33] paela argus: can take 1 day for clear 6000 items of trash
[2019/04/27 11:33] albertlr Landar: ok I will put an announcement about that in the WMe paela
[2019/04/27 11:33] albertlr Landar: weme
[2019/04/27 11:33] Koni Lanzius: we should start a "Ya need to know" campaign
[2019/04/27 11:33] Snoots Dwagon: And the thing is, those are OBJECTS... each with multiple assets. So removing those items... could have deleted 20,000, 30,000 assets or ore
[2019/04/27 11:33] Snoots Dwagon: more
[2019/04/27 11:34] Mirror Amorasi is Offline
[2019/04/27 11:34] Koni Lanzius: ahh
[2019/04/27 11:34] TIGGS Beaumont: That actually just helped snoots wow
[2019/04/27 11:34] TIGGS Beaumont: okay
[2019/04/27 11:34] TIGGS Beaumont: so half the day I dump
[2019/04/27 11:34] Em Jannings is Online
[2019/04/27 11:34] TIGGS Beaumont: other half I drive Wizard crazy
[2019/04/27 11:34] Lobo Estepario is Offline
[2019/04/27 11:35] Snoots Dwagon: If everyone on the grid were to be informed as Koni says, and dumped their trash fully... no telling how greatly that would reduce asset server size.
[2019/04/27 11:35] Snoots Dwagon: Probably by MILLIONS of assets.
[2019/04/27 11:35] Koni Lanzius: i can make some media if ya like
[2019/04/27 11:35] paela argus: that not remove any assets
[2019/04/27 11:35] Snoots Dwagon: No exaggeration
[2019/04/27 11:35] paela argus: just the hash in db
[2019/04/27 11:35] TIGGS Beaumont: but wait
[2019/04/27 11:35] TIGGS Beaumont: if the site is down we cant right?
[2019/04/27 11:35] Koni Lanzius: but now we should wait for paela to do her work on the website
[2019/04/27 11:35] Snoots Dwagon: Wait you're saying fully dumping trash does not remove assets from the asset server?
[2019/04/27 11:35] TIGGS Beaumont: I mean dump on the site
[2019/04/27 11:35] Kayaker Magic: The asset server is a complex thing. If you rezzed an item or gave a copy to someone else then deleted it from YOUR inventory, it cannot be deleted from the Asset server yet. I don't know if the Asset Server does "garbage collection" or even knows if there are any inventory links pointing back to old items.
[2019/04/27 11:36] Snoots Dwagon: That's right Tiggs
[2019/04/27 11:36] paela argus: nah is just the hash removed because we use a direct write disk for the assets
[2019/04/27 11:36] paela argus: not db assets
[2019/04/27 11:36] TIGGS Beaumont: so perhaps create a trash basket for when the site is bck up
[2019/04/27 11:36] Snoots Dwagon: yeah Kayaker. I know of one aspect of how SL itself stores assets that is just insane
[2019/04/27 11:36] George Equus is Offline
[2019/04/27 11:37] Snoots Dwagon: And if the system has no garbage deletion for assets-- in my opinion that is a system doomed to eventual failure
[2019/04/27 11:37] paela argus: sl not remove any assets too
[2019/04/27 11:37] paela argus: only hash ^^
[2019/04/27 11:37] Snoots Dwagon: Unless of course, one has unlimited resources
[2019/04/27 11:37] Snoots Dwagon: Yes Paela, exactly
[2019/04/27 11:37] Koni Lanzius: so trimming inventories does no real good?
[2019/04/27 11:38] paela argus: but clear objects in inventory lower the db in inventory services
[2019/04/27 11:38] paela argus: that sure
[2019/04/27 11:38] paela argus: we have more 800 billion objects in inventory in total
[2019/04/27 11:38] Koni Lanzius: holy crap
[2019/04/27 11:38] Jeff Hall: why assets aren't deleted once references in DB removed?
[2019/04/27 11:38] Kayaker Magic: Trimming inventories makes your experience better, your inventory is sent to the viewer on login and HG and if it is smaller this will be faster.
[2019/04/27 11:38] TIGGS Beaumont: OMG
[2019/04/27 11:38] Snoots Dwagon: Clearing your inventory makes it easier and faster to manage your inventory Koni. So it's worth while. But from what Paela says, it doesn't help the asset servers at all
[2019/04/27 11:39] Snoots Dwagon: Yeah, what Kayaker said. :D
[2019/04/27 11:39] Snoots Dwagon: mwahahahahahaha...
[2019/04/27 11:39] Koni Lanzius: oh good mind if i quot you in the public service announcement?
[2019/04/27 11:39] paela argus: nah but help user in tp
[2019/04/27 11:39] paela argus: etc
[2019/04/27 11:39] paela argus: in rezzing after a clear cache too
[2019/04/27 11:39] Snoots Dwagon: rght
[2019/04/27 11:39] TIGGS Beaumont: tat wa s going to be my question Snootful
[2019/04/27 11:39] TIGGS Beaumont: Paela so even us cleaning our inventory does not lessen the load on the server?
[2019/04/27 11:39] paela argus: reduce assets size yes
[2019/04/27 11:39] Snoots Dwagon: I have to say, as a programmer and retired consultant, it is alarming to me to hear of an asset server that JUST. KEEPS. GROWING.
[2019/04/27 11:39] paela argus: we reset osgrid ?
[2019/04/27 11:39] paela argus: :-P~~
[2019/04/27 11:40] Jeff Hall: i dont get it either; removing a reference in DB should trigger a delete in assets
[2019/04/27 11:40] albertlr Landar: there is a provision for weeding out duplicates in the asset server.
[2019/04/27 11:40] Snoots Dwagon: If the asset server is not self-maintaining... it is like a person who just eats and eats and gets fatter and fatter and fatter. Pretty soon they can't move... and will die of a heart attack.
[2019/04/27 11:40] paela argus: no jeff
[2019/04/27 11:40] paela argus: try search a file in a server with more 6 tb of data
[2019/04/27 11:41] Snoots Dwagon: I agree Jeff
[2019/04/27 11:41] albertlr Landar: you are over speculating snoots
[2019/04/27 11:41] TIGGS Beaumont: but that would cost a fortune
[2019/04/27 11:41] Snoots Dwagon: I believe Paela, but I think that is insane coding
[2019/04/27 11:41] Jeff Hall: i dont say it DOES but i say it SHOULD
[2019/04/27 11:41] Snoots Dwagon: Why over speculating albertlr?
[2019/04/27 11:41] Jeff Hall: simply
[2019/04/27 11:41] albertlr Landar: jumping to conclusions with not evidence
[2019/04/27 11:41] albertlr Landar: no
[2019/04/27 11:41] Snoots Dwagon: What conclusions?
[2019/04/27 11:42] Snoots Dwagon: I'm going by what Paela is saying
[2019/04/27 11:42] paela argus: -*- loOl -*-
[2019/04/27 11:42] paela argus: is osgrid are locked by the change of Melanie 4 years ago ^^
[2019/04/27 11:42] albertlr Landar: about the asset server, talk with those that work on it before you make conclusions
[2019/04/27 11:42] paela argus: and all grid use fsassets will go in the same problem
[2019/04/27 11:42] Snoots Dwagon: With all respect... I'm not jumping to conclusions when I've been told "this is how the asset server works". Misinformed maybe... .if Paela is incorrect.
[2019/04/27 11:43] TIGGS Beaumont: I owuld trust what Paela says yes Snoots
[2019/04/27 11:43] Snoots Dwagon: But if Paela is correct, then we're discussion a continually growing asset server.
[2019/04/27 11:43] albertlr Landar: well I will let you speculate all you want, I think we can conclude the meeting for today.
[2019/04/27 11:43] paela argus: assets is the eternal problem of all grids
[2019/04/27 11:43] paela argus: include secondlife
[2019/04/27 11:43] albertlr Landar: See you net week everyone
[2019/04/27 11:43] albertlr Landar: week everyone
[2019/04/27 11:44] Koni Lanzius: ok thank you Albirtir
[2019/04/27 11:44] TIGGS Beaumont: um albeterl lil early today?
[2019/04/27 11:44] albertlr Landar: Take care, i am going to rest.
[2019/04/27 11:44] paela argus: a nice reste albert
[2019/04/27 11:44] albertlr Landar: yes i am Tiggs, still passing stones
[2019/04/27 11:44] Koni Lanzius: he is not well Tiggs
[2019/04/27 11:44] paela argus: rest
[2019/04/27 11:44] Snoots Dwagon: Ouch. Closing meeting 15 min early on a major issue? ooookay.... ;D
[2019/04/27 11:44] Wizard Atazoth: take care albert and thank you
[2019/04/27 11:44] Jeff Hall: ty albert and have a nice rest
[2019/04/27 11:44] TIGGS Beaumont: ah rest well albeterl
[2019/04/27 11:44] Azi Az: Tc Albertir
[2019/04/27 11:44] TIGGS Beaumont: hope you feel better soon
[2019/04/27 11:44] paela argus: where you see a major issue ?
[2019/04/27 11:44] Koni Lanzius: Snoots Albirtir is not well
[2019/04/27 11:44] Snoots Dwagon: Nitey nite!
