It occurred to me the other day that through the use of blockchain technology that one may be able to lock down object permissions regardless of who is running the sim. It could also open the door for a real digital currency to be used on the platform.

Thought to offer this suggestion out there in case someone is interested to pick it up.

For those that don't know, blockchain technology is used in crypto currencies like Bitcoin to store the ledger of transactions.

Why? OSgrid is open - that's what the "O" means. Why do we want to lock it down? This is not SL.

The Bitcoin Core code is open source, as well, yet one can still own their own Bitcoins in that system. One could still have their permissions open for all to use and copy, yet that would be for creators to choose. It seems like something that should be the option for the creators to choose not enforced like some virtual Soviet Union.

One nice feature to counter the permissions option would be to give idle sims the ability to mine OSCoins.

Osgrid is a no-profit project registered in the united state, so it is impossible to support the currency, or resident money projects

permission encryption:
moreover, the encryption of the permissions will change nothing because any viewer so far can copyboth a content whether it is encrypted or not.
See with opensimulator dev for your idea we depend on uh

The code is open source so such changes are not subject to the jurisdiction of the USA. Should such a change become implemented than a more crypto friendly location, like Malta, might be considered.

For those that may not be familiar with steemit, com, it is a social media platform using blockchain technology for its ledger. Just as a user can log in and edit a posting of their's on the blockchain, while others cannot, so too could Grid objects be under the control of the the original creator. Although the idea may not be well received here it seems, it would not be impossible to implement.

P.S. A viewer may be able to do some copying locally yet the power of blockchain technology is that it then has to agree with the rest of the nodes on the blockchain to pass it on.

P.P.S Anyway, will leave the idea for some developer that may want to bring OSGrid into new age of blockchain technology.
