What I want to see in Opensimulator is a voxel engine with procedural generation of terrain and texture based on Simplex Noise.

Some time ago I saw it was an attempt to add voxel and procedural terrain generation system to the core engine. The developer forked the opensim to Voxelsim.
I found this on another forum:

The developer said in that topic that he want to add this feature to his own viewer Luna.
I tried to compile Voxelsim but is not working it seams the code is broken but a programmer I think can fix it.

well, to start of with, you will need a special modyfied viewer which will support those kind of terrains. As far as I know, all current viewers do not support negative slopes which one needs eg to create a cave. Integrating the features into opensim shouldnt be to much of a problem, but the viewerside change will be a huge challange...
