Armin Weatherwax of Imp/Kokura/Teapot is working on Firestorm to help give it better Opensim support. It's a good start and direction.

The new version with the following is available on their download page.

Note your'll have to have a fairly recent videocard to be able to run a V3 viewer.

{L_QUOTE}:
Opensim

New Opensim preferences panel and grid manager
Allows easy adding of other grids and grid management
Preferences → Opensim

Added Opensim currency support

Added Opensim Search support
Search login response is now supported

Added Opensim max groups support

Destination guide and avatar picker are hidden if not available

Added better support for hypergrid jumps

Hi Sarah,

thanks for the info. I'm using Imp currently and am still finding my way through Opensim/SL as it is new to me. But at a later time I will surely look into a different viewer. Do you know what is meant by this:

> Added Opensim currency support

I thought there was no money on OS?

Thanks

Phaandor

Thanks for the heads-up, Sarah.

And thank you, Armin!

I'm looking forward to developments here, especially since Firestorm is available for Macs as well as PCs and Linux machines.

There is currency support in most viewers, however individual grids may or may not have a functioning currency, This may mean that this particular viewer formerly had no support for currency even if the grid has a currency system in play, it is true that OSGrid has no functioning currency but the OpenSim code has the option for connecting a currency module, (if you can find a good one)

Thanks Cam, I did not read or understand properly. Surely Opensim != OSgrid and GermanGrid for example has a currency system implemented.

I wondered about this too... we now see OS$ in the top bar instead of L$.

There is a known bug in this version people should know about:

If you have Windows Sky-drive installed, you are probably gonna crash if you try to upload something with this viewer.
This is a bug related to the core SL viewer this viewer uses.
There is a work around:

(Copy & paste from the firestorm mantis thingy)

Ok, this is a solution that I found (as I had a hunch that those green overlay icons shell extension in Skydrive are causing problems).

Tested on Windows 7 – 64 Bit, after Skydrive was installed

1) Start regedit (start -> run -> type “regedit” -> hit enter)
2) Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers
3) In the left panel you should see 3 SkyDrive keys (1, 2 and 3)
4) Delete all 3 of them
5) Reboot
6) Enjoy both Skydrive and Second Life working at the same time

There is a problem with attempting to establish a new login URL on the grid manager.
If you're running a standalone version of opensimulator (with hypergrid enabled),
the grid manager will reject any attempts to establish your paremters with the exception
of local host. This is not acceptable.

If you are only able to connect to your region using Local Host, then maybe you haven't got your configuration correct for a hypergridded standalone.
